about

Cold Bleak Heat is the East Coast's maximalist tour de force of spontaneous sound construction. Made up of the heaviest cats in the underworld of Hated Arts, CBH is spearheaded by Connecticut's prevailing operator of the alto/ tenor saxophones, Paul Flaherty. Alongside is his regular sparing partner, drummer Chris Corsano, sound sculpting trumpeter Greg Kelley (nmperign) and Earth-boom grounding acoustic bassist Matt Heyner (No Neck Blues Band, Test). Cold Bleak Heat is a wake up call to the evolving life of the avant garde.

Simitu is Cold Bleak Heat's second album.

"Free jazz's jagged tonalities, explosiveness and collective ecstasy while making that idiom a natural extension of the free and noise idioms of today. On the six pieces here they manifest subjective rhythm in a group setting, echoing not only the freely accented flow of Albert Ayler's Spiritual Unity trio, but also the rollicking shape-shifting of Charles Mingus' quartet on Candid." -- Matthew Wuethrich, Dusted
